Telegram’s TON Network Resumes After Temporary Outage, Pledges Post-Mortem Review

The Open Network (TON), a blockchain ecosystem closely tied to Telegram, has resumed full operations following a temporary outage on June 1 that disrupted block production. According to an official update from TON developers, the issue was swiftly identified and resolved within 40 minutes.

The cause of the outage was traced to a bug in the masterchain dispatch queue, which led to a halt in block production. The development team quickly isolated the error and deployed a fix, restoring consensus by updating only a limited number of masterchain validators. TON confirmed that no user assets were affected during the disruption.

While the network is now fully operational, developers have announced that a detailed post-mortem report will be published in the coming days. The team aims to enhance transparency and prevent future disruptions by sharing technical insights into what caused the failure.

Service interruptions like this are not unique to TON. High-performance blockchains such as Solana and Sui have faced similar outages in the past year due to consensus failures or software bugs. These incidents are often triggered by sudden spikes in network activity or design flaws in the validator logic.

TON has previously encountered major technical challenges. In August 2024, the network was paralyzed twice during the launch of the DOGS memecoin, with block production halting for several hours on both August 27 and 28. Another performance issue in December 2023 saw transaction speeds plummet from 100,000 TPS to under one due to underpowered validator hardware.

Despite these setbacks, the TON ecosystem continues to thrive. In March 2025, the project raised $400 million from top venture firms including Sequoia Capital, Draper Associates, CoinFund, and SkyBridge, signaling strong investor confidence in its long-term potential.
